Brady's RBC Heritage Journal: Putting with the pros is a can't miss for kids

As Tuesday at the 2022 RBC Heritage presented by Boeing came to a close with practice rounds wrapping up and kids lining up to putt with the pros for Coca Cola Youth Day, here is what I saw.

Players started their practice rounds bright and early Tuesday morning and wrapped up their final preparations for the night. Many people don’t realize how much work these guys put in each day. I followed Peter Malnati, one of the nicest guys on the PGA Tour, and his group around for nine holes today as they got used to this tough layout. I took a quick lunch break at the brand new Pella Lounge overlooking No. 17 tee box, which is open to the public.

Then it was time to go watch the kids putt! Kids eagerly waiting to putt were lined up all the way down No. 1 fairway, and when it was their turn to give it a rip and meet some pros they all said that the wait was well worth it. Some of this year's professionals included Berkeley Hall resident William McGirt and the LOWCO’s own Alabama commit Jonathan Griz (who isn’t technically a pro … yet). The kids showed many emotions while putting — some were happy to be there, some were mad about a lip out, and some were just excited to get their brand new flag signed by the pros.

After the putting, I went back and checked out the Heritage Lawn between 17 green and 18 tee. It wasn't fully set up just yet, but it seems like it is going to be a lot of fun and a great atmosphere to be in for the biggest party of the year on Hilton Head Island.

I wrapped up my day behind 9 green and the chipping facility and saw kids using my tricks and tips on how to get autographs. The Wednesday pro-am is tomorrow and the real tournament starts Thursday, and I’ll be a standard bearer both days, so I’m looking forward to getting inside the ropes and interacting with the pros.

It’s such a great experience to be at the Heritage. I hope you can make it out at least one day, but if not, I hope I can make you feel like you were there with me.
