Bluffton’s Bridget Wilkie put on a dominant performance to win the Carolinas Golf Association’s Carolinas Girls 15 and Under Championship at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in North Carolina.
Wilkie opened up a four-shot lead after firing an even-par 72 in Monday’s first round, and her 1-over 73 matched the low round of the day Tuesday as she cruised to a five-shot victory over Grace Ridenour of Raleigh.
“It feels amazing. I am really happy to be here,” Wilkie told the CGA. “I was steady, I hit a lot of greens today. Nothing really dropped but I had a bunch of two-putts.”
Wilkie made three birdies and three bogeys in her opening round and played steady golf Thursday, following an opening bogey with 10 straight pars.
Ridenour climbed within two shots of the lead after Wilkie made double-bogey at the par-3 12th, but the Hilton Head Prep standout bounced back with a birdie on the next hole and added another at No. 16 to seal the wire-to-wire victory.
